An Afternoon with Friends

Today we got together with some of our college friends from the Newman Center. We have been getting together with them 1 or 2 times a year since graduation. For this reunion we decided to go to mass at Newman Center where we all met and then have lunch at Ben and Kyle's. This was the second time we have had the kids together and it was so much fun to see them all play together! It was a fun afternoon with good food and great company!

Eagle's Nest

The Eagle's Nest is an indoor play area near our house in New Brighton. We like to go there about once a month and it is a great place for Addie to let out some energy in the winter. It's so nice because it's clean and they have a separate area for kids 3 and under. Today Addie spent about a half an hour straight climbing up these little stairs and then saying, "Set, set, go!" and running off them. It was so funny I couldn't help but take a video!

Happy Valentines Day!

We had a fun filled Valentines weekend! On Saturday we took Addie to the MOA to go on her first rides! I brought her on the train first. She seemed a little unsure during most of the ride, but by the end she kept saying, "more choo choo!". Next it was Brian's turn. He brought her to the carousel and she looked so excited with all the different animals to choose from. She decided to ride on a giraffe, but once they got there, she got scared and burst into tears. We didn't see any other rides there for her, so it was back to the train for more, which made Addie happy.

On Valentine's Day we went to the zoo. Addie's favorite activity that day was playing in the play room and dressing up as different animals. Later that night we were able to go out to dinner with a family date to Punch Pizza.

It was a wonderful day and weekend spent with those I love the most. Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

What We've Been Up To...

It has been about a month since my last post, which is not due to the lack of events to blog about, but due to how busy we have been! Here is a summary of the past month for the Corbett's:

Trips to the zoo and walks to the park
- Addie is becoming very independent and insists, "me walk!" whenever we leave the house. The zoo has been a great way for us to get some of this walking in during the cold weather. On warmer days we like to walk to the park. We have found a nice little spot for sledding and she also likes to spin on the ice.

Trips to urgent care - In about the past month we have made our first two visits to urgent care. The first was for a dislocated elbow and the second was for a fractured toe. Our very healthy child is starting to prove herself to be quite accident prone! It has been heartbreaking to see her in so much pain, but the good news is she is starting to realize the doctor helps to make people better - which should make our healthy visits a little bit easier!

Celebrating Hazel's First Birthday
- Hazel is Addie's good friend who lives down the street. We have been friends with her parents for the past 6 years and Hazel and Addie go to daycare together. Her party was a lot of fun and has made Addie excited for her own birthday party which is coming up soon!

Celebrating the soon arrival of a new friend - Our friend Mandy is expecting her second child in the next few weeks. We think our new friend will be a girl named Audrey, but we will have to wait to find out for sure!

HOCKEY!

Addie has recently taken up a very large interest in hockey. It started last weekend when Addie asked Brian where he was going and we told her that he was going to play hockey. Ever since then she has asked about hockey multiple times a day - playing hockey, wearing her hockey shirt, if Dada is going to hockey... So last night we decided to take Addie to her first hockey game. We watched the Women's US Olympic Team play the Gophers at Ridder Arena. We were able to sit right next to the boards so that Addie could stand and feel very close to the action. I think her favorite part of the game was when there was a scuffle along the boards by us and some snow was sprayed up on the glass - she kept asking for more snow the rest of the game! Her scariest moment was when Goldy came right up to the glass by us and waved to Addie. She did not like that - a true HUSKY!

Happy New Year!

I like to look back at old pictures when reflecting on the previous year. As I have been looking through our 2009 photos I am still amazed at how much life can change over the course of a year. Unlike 2008, we did not add a new member to our family, however, we started the year with an infant that we could bring with us pretty much anywhere and ended the year with a toddler who is craving independence and is always on the go. I discovered that there is a day I can look forward to even more than my own birthday - Addie's birthday. We took our first vacation as a "family" to Duluth which is much different from our vacations to places like Belize or Japan. And even when we got to travel alone we were constantly thinking about our little girl at home. A year ago we would go for a walk and strap Addie in her stroller and be on our way. Now, a walk in the neighborhood takes at least an hour and we can only make it a few blocks with the little naturalist that insists on walking along with us.

We started 2009 with Addie at our side and surrounded by our family and friends and that's how we ended it... what a great year. Here's to 2010!
