Memorial Day Weekend 2009

This weekend we headed to the Corbett Cabin in Siren, Wisconsin in honor of Memorial Day weekend. It was a full cabin with the whole family there, but it still provided us with much fun and relaxation. Addie enjoyed playing with her cousin Riley and Dixie the puppy dog along with her uncles and Grandma and Papa.

She liked playing in the sand and water, going for a boat ride and tractor ride, and just spending time out in the fresh air.

All this time outside made for a very tired little girl on the way home!

We have made a tradition of spending Memorial Day planting our vegetable garden, so the first thing we did this morning was to go and get our starter plants. We needed vegetables and Grandma Engstrom needed flowers, so we made a last minute decision for all of us to go to the Minneapolis Farmer's Market for our shopping. Many of you already know my feelings about strollers at the Farmer's Market, but for those of you who don't - I hate them. I figured we could avoid being "those people" by just keeping our wagon on the perimeter and taking turns going into the market to get our plants, but when we got there I was thrilled to see that the market was not busy at all! There was no one there but the vendors and very few shoppers which allowed us to mosey up and down the aisles with our wagon at our leisure. It made me so happy to bring Addie and be able to enjoy this summer activity together!

We had a great weekend together, and it has made me even more anxious for the school year to end and for summer to begin. I am hoping that I will be able to finish the last couple of weeks of school refreshed and energized.

For those of you interested, here is a list of vegetables we planted in our garden: Butternut Squash, Cucumbers, Lettuce, Red Pepper, Sweet Peas, Tomatoes, Zucchini (Pumpkins and Sunflowers will most likely be added by the end of the week).

The Playroom Discussion

This past weekend we celebrated our friend Ava's first birthday. The party was lots of fun, especially seeing all the kids together.

After her party, we went over to our friend Henry's house so the kids could play some more. One big draw to Henry's house is The Ball Pit. We have been excited for Addie to go over and play in it thinking she would really enjoy it, and boy, were we right. She LOVED it!

This has generated a discussion between Brian and I about Addie having a playroom and where we would even put it. We have agreed that we would like to have a play area for her, but cannot agree on where that should be. We both see pros and cons to using our upstairs office and our main floor dining room, but we cannot seem to come up with a compromise! Neither of us seem to be budging on this matter, so I am hoping the poll will help. Please vote!

Happy Mother's Day!

We had a very busy and fun Mother's Day! It began with breakfast at our favorite spot, Mill City Cafe. We all had the cinnemon wild rice pancakes, and I think Addie enjoyed them even more than us! We then went to the zoo and Addie spent a lot of time walking around the Tropics and Minnesota Trails.

After the zoo, we had lunch with Great Grandma Rodgers and Grandma and Grandpa Engstrom and visited Great Grandpa Rodgers at his nursing home. Addie had a great time there since there were tons of birds, and a cat that actually let her pet him. Finally, it was time for our final destination - dinner with the Corbett's. As I said, the day was very busy, but most importantly, Addie was able to wish a Happy Mother's Day to all her grandma's and great grandma's!

May Day!

We had a fun time taking Addie to the May Day celebration at Powderhorn Park today. As you can see in the picture, she couldn't take her eyes off all the floats and puppets. She also loved bouncing to all the music and drums. Happy Summer!
