Memorial Day Weekend 2012

We spent most of the weekend at the cabin, and enjoyed our time relaxing both inside the cabin and on the water.  The kids enjoyed...
Driving
Fishing
Swimming
Navigating
Boating
We returned home on Sunday so that we could spend our time on Monday at our neighbor's annual Memorial Day BBQ.  Due to unforeseen circumstances, they had to scale back the BBQ this year to a "picnic", but people still came by the dozens.  It was nice to see on this Memorial Day, the amount of support and love that these long friendships and neighbors can bring for one another.  And as always, it was a highlight of our weekend.

Flower Girl 3.0

Addie was asked to be the flower girl in her Godfather, Uncle Jon's, wedding this weekend.  We think of her as nearly a professional flower girl at this point, seeing as it was her 3rd time!  As we expected, she did a great job and loved every second of it.  Although, if you ask her what her favorite part of the wedding was she will tell you, "dancing with Mackenzie and Taylor!"

Happy Mother's Day!

We had a busy Mother's Day weekend with lots of fun family activities.  On Saturday morning we hooked up the Burley and headed to opening weekend at the Mill City Farmer's Market.   This is our favorite market for many reasons.  Not only is there great produce to buy, but there are food trucks and stands with amazing treats, many cheeses, smoked fish, and an occasional petting zoo!  The rest of the day we spent playing outside and planting our pots and vegetable garden (more on that next time!).
Sunday morning we headed to Hazel's for breakfast (now a Mother's Day tradition).  Other highlights from our day were a hike around the Bass Ponds, lunch with my Mom, Grandma, and extended family, and some time at the May Day Parade
As you can see, it was a busy day, but I was happy that I got to see my Mom and Grandma, and spend some great quality time with the two little amazing people that made me a mom!

Duluth

I decided to attend the MCTM spring conference in Duluth this year.  Since the conference ended at 12:45 on Saturday, we decided that Brian and the kids should meet me up there and we could make a weekend of it.  And despite the cold weather, it turned out to be a great idea!  We did lots of swimming at the hotel and put both our Children’s Museum and Zoo passes to work outside their normal radius.

The Duluth zoo was very unassuming from the outside, but we were all thoroughly impressed.  My favorite part was the kangaroos.  First, I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen any and second, we even got to walk around with them!  They were so sweet and cute!

We also did brave to cold for a few “must-sees” for us when we go to Duluth.  First we headed down to Park Point Beach (one of my favorite places) to enjoy the scenery.  It was very windy that day so the waves were huge and loud!  Max was instantly unsure of these new surroundings and was holding on very tight to both of us.  When we set him down to take a picture, he immediately burst into tears (and we couldn’t help but laugh!).  And our family picture even includes the back of Max’s head since he had to keep his eyes on the water the entire time!
Addie loved Lake Superior
Hopefully Max will grow to love Lake Superior!

Then we headed to the pier to watch some boats and see a lighthouse.  We had a great weekend, and are even looking forward to another week in Duluth this summer!
