Tomorrow's The Day
Yikes. Tomorrow is the day I have dreaded most since March 5th. Addie is all packed and ready to go and I was able to talk to Miss Tina for a bit today which helped. The other nice thing is Addie will be the only daycare child she has this week (she also has her two boys home for this week). This gives me a lot of relief in knowing that Addie and Miss Tina will have a week to spend some quality time together and really get to know each other.
While all is well and prepared on Addie's front, that is not the case for me. I spent a day at HPA this past week and my room is a disaster. Many of you have heard me complain about this already, so I will not continue.
On a positive note, we had a great final week of summer. One highlight was our twice weekly swimming date with Erin and lunch with Brian at Cedar Lake. Addie was even able to get a nap in at the beach for a few minutes! Then Friday we had lunch with Mandy, Henry, Brie, Ava, and Cassie at Turtle Bread - yum yum. Then we went somewhat skeptically to Underwater Adventures and had a great time! The girls LOVED looking at the fish all around them and were kicking and screaming with excitement. It was so cute! Then Friday night we went to the State Fair where Addie was exposed to things like corndogs, bacon on a stick, and Sweet Martha's cookies. She also made her television debut with Sven. When he was introducing her she grabbed the mike and it went straight into her mouth. It was adorable!
The last bit of good news is Addie is becoming more receptive to bananas, and is enjoying sweet potatoes :)

Swim Swim Fishy
Countdown Satus: 1 week left :(
We went to the cabin this weekend, and had a great time. The weather was perfect for playing outside, going for a boat ride, swimming and a fire. Addie has become quite the swimmer this summer. She began her time in the water with a feeling of indifference, but has now come to enjoy herself quite a bit. This weekend she was floating in her crab and realized that her feet could touch the bottom and with that she started to push herself around near the shore. When we would push her out further where she couldn't touch, she started kicking her feet in hopes of touching the bottom. It was so fun to watch her explore the water on her own!
Other highlights from the weekend include driving the boat with Papa (and tolerating her lifejacket for nearly the entire ride!) and playing with her cousin Riley and uncle Jon. The one dislike Addie has presented us with this weekend is bananas. Loves zucchini, hates bananas. Weird. Especially because Brian and I both eat a banana every day. I guess we'll just keep trying and hope she comes around!

I did it -
and now I must do it. I registered today for the St. Croix Valley Triathlon. Yikes. It's on August 30th, so I have two weeks to train, right? Just kidding... I have been training for a while now, just things are slower and harder than I had expected. It has come to a point where I just needed to decide to not do it, or just do it and be ok with my time probably being the worst overall. I've decided I'm ok with the latter because I think it will just feel good to participate and will give me some momentum as I move on into the school year. The part that seems to be bugging me the most is that this is my last year to compete in my current age group. I have been improving my times over the past three seasons - coming in 2nd at a small tri, and placing 15th at the Lifetime Tri last year (and getting 5th in the run). The group that I will move on to next year is the most competitive. Hopefully I will still be able to place well then.
On a more positive note, I am excited for the event and now have even more motivation to get me through the next two weeks. I do have to thank Brian and Erin because without the two of them pushing me and holding me accountable I would probably not even be competing this year. THANK YOU!
Oh, and this made me laugh today:

I'm not sure that this is good for this woman mentally or physically. Psycho!

Let's Go to the Zoo!
We now have 1.5 weeks left until it's back to schoool :(
We spent our day today with another trip to the zoo. I got a pass for us this spring thinking it would be a good place to walk around when Addie was really little and a fun outing when she got a little bigger. We have been a number of times and it has also been a fun destination for us with our friends. It has bee so fun lately to see how interested she is in all the animals. Her favorites lately have been the fish, meerkats, and butterflies. She is so focused when watching them, and when they go past her she gets excited and flails her arms and kicks her legs. It's so cute!

Our First Night Apart
This weekend Brian and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary with a trip to Alpine Valley to see a DMB concert. This was not an Addie friendly outing, so she spent the night at Grandma and Papa Corbett's house. It was sad to leave her and I missed her tons, but we had a great time. Dave played two songs that we haven't seen live before (Spoon and Halloween) and we even had time when we got back for an anniversary dinner at Salut.
In other Addie news, she had some zucchini for dinner tonight. She couldn't get enough! We even gave her seconds, but cut her off after that. Brian said it reminded him of the green slime on the show "You Can't Do That On Television". In that case, she was slimed good after that meal! We will continue with the zucchini for the next few days and I'm thinking we'll try some bananas after that. Yum!

The Countdown Begins...
I have 3 weeks left at home with Addie. It is amazing how fast the time has gone by. When I think about the beginning of the school year, I feel more of a feeling of nostalgia than of sadness. What makes me sad is thinking that my time home with her is ending, and that now we will be moving on to our next chapter with Addie. I’m trying to remind myself that I will have every summer home with her, but deep down I feel like all of those other summers will be different from this one.
One way that we have been spending our time together is each week since she was 6 weeks old we have gone to Yoga Bonding together. This is a class offered by the Yoga Center of Minneapolis, and has been wonderful! I have learned so much – baby massage, calming techniques, and how to help establish a foundation of security and trust. It has also given me time to get back into my own yoga practice. After a couple months our friends Brie and Ava started joining us, so it has also been a fun time to hang out with them.
Namaste!
